The city proper comprises four main areas: the hotel zone along the shore to the north, Olas Altas - Col Zapata to the south of the Cuale river (recently named Zona Romantica in some tourist brochures), the Centro along the shore between these two areas, and a number of residential areas to the east of the hotel zone. The oldest section of the town is the area of Col. Centro near the church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, especially Hidalgo street.
Sierra Madre Occidental
The Sierra Madre Occidental is a major mountain range system of the North American Cordillera, that runs northwest–southeast through northwestern and western Mexico, and along the Gulf of California. The Sierra Madre is part of the American Cordillera, a chain of mountain ranges (cordillera) that consists of an almost continuous sequence of mountain ranges that form the western 'backbone' of North America, Central America, South America and West Antarctica.

¿POR QUÉ PROTEGER LA SIERRA EL CUALE?
La creación de un Área Natural Protegida, representa una oportunidad para mantener comunicados los ecosistemas presentes de las sierras al área marítima, contribuyendo así a que esta área se convierta en una zona que no sólo preserve sus recursos naturales, sino también a revertir los efectos más graves de las perturbaciones y las amenazas que actualmente enfrentan sus ecosistemas.
De la misma manera detonar proyectos productivos alternativos como son el turismo de naturaleza, turismo rural, la valoración del patrimonio cultural y el aprovechamiento sustentable de sus bosques.
El conservar los ciclos ecológicos, a través del cuidado de los espacios naturales, permitirá el mantener las actividades ecoturísticas tan representativas de la región, ya que su sistema montañoso y su contacto con la línea de costa han sido un factor fundamental para el turismo con la gran riqueza biológica, paisajística y climática.
